Repetition

There is the kind that stultifies,
but also the kind that soothes
through the mindful tending to a ritual.

Before the ceremonies begin the men form a circle by the lodge. They pass a pipe, smoking tobacco that grows near by. A speaker recounts the members of the tribe who have passed since the last solstice dance. He evokes memories of their lives. The men murmur in agreement as they smoke. The speaker then talks of the births into the tribe.
